Being the largest of the Scandinavian countries, Sweden offers you many opportunities for cultural and outdoor activities. Visit the cities and explore the country's glorious past or the life in a cosmopolitan and modern society. If you need rest from the hectic city life, just leave for the countryside, and vast forests, 90000 lakes, mountains and the beautiful sea await you.
Bordering with Finland and Norway and connected to Denmark via the Oresund Bridge, Sweden is a tourist destination that up until now has been mostly enjoyed by its neighbouring countries. English speaking visitors should not fear though as although the Swedish language is of North Germanic heritage English is widely spoken by all.
Though on the outskirts of Europe, Sweden was never a culturally outpost. The reigning royalty often invited foreign artists to their courts and also stimulated the development of local artists. Furthermore the Swedish developed their own traditions in design, painting and architecture. Gothenburg City hall was a widely followed example of traditionalistic architecture.
The four greatest cities Stockholm, Norrköping/Linköping Twin Cities, Gothenburg, and Malmö display varied characteristics. The capital Stockholm is beautiful, hi-tech oriented and full of history. This presentday capital is surrounded by its predeccesors Uppsala , Birka , Nyköping and Sigtuna . Famous is the trip by steaming-boat across the Göta Kanal (the Blue Ribbon of Sweden) that connects Gothenburg with Stockholm.
Visitors to this amazing country will be entranced by the astounding natural landscapes and the eternal summer days when the sun never sets in the North of the country. Home to the original Ice Hotel near Kiruna Sweden is the kind of destination that opens your eyes to a different World.

Sights and attractions in Stockholm
Located on the east coast of Sweden at the mouth of lake Malaren is Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. The largest city in Scandinavia, Stockholm is a city literally floating on the water dispersed among fourteen separate islands. The most stunning and probably most visited of these islands is Gamla Stan the ‘old town’ that has maintained its old medieval streets and houses among many other things the Royal Palace. The Stockholm Archipelago just to the east of the city has another 24,000 islands, islets and rocks that visitors can explore.
It is no wonder that Stockholm was voted European City of Culture in 1998 with its continual flow of exhibitions and events. The city boasts no fewer than 70 museums one of the most of any city in the world.
Stockholm is city renowned for its vibrancy and cultural heritage and makes a fantastic destination for anyone looking for a little more than just a city break.

Gamla Stan
The best place to start on any tour of places to see in Stockholm would definetley have to be Gamla Stan, the old town. A great place to visit on foot (it is barely 500 metres in diameter) the wonderful 17th century buildings and winding medieval streets have been preserved to an incredible degree so much so that any visitor could almost be forgived for thinking they had been shot back in time. Gamla Stan is home to some of the most famous buildings in Stockholm such as the Riddarholm Church and the largest Royal Palace in the world still occupied by the head of state King Carl XVI Gustav. The palace is open to the public and offers a wonderful opportunity to witness the royal apartments and state hall first hand. The 13th Century Storkyrkan Cathedral and the 20th Century Nobel Museum are both located in Gamla Stan.
StockholmSkansenSkansen
Open air museum has long been the most popular attraction in Stockholm, with a number of exhibitions and concerts held throughout the year this is a great place to get a ‘feel’ for Sweden, its people and its past. If you visit Stockholm during Christmas then Skansen is the place to be for Stockholm’s famous Christmas Market.
Located in the centre of Stockholm is The City hall an imposing brick structure and home to the annual Nobel Prize awards. StockholmKungsträdgårdenKungsträdgården
The garden of the king, translated. It now belongs to the people. This intersection between garden, park and event ground is one of the main meeting points of the Swedes. Great place to sit and relax. Free concerts make this one of the most popular places in summer.
Also you should surely visit such famous and popular places as: Archipelago, Stadshuset (city hall), Sergels Torg (plaza), Vasa museum, Kungliga Slottet (royal palace), Södermalm (neighborhood), Drottningholm (royal palace).
