Okavango Khwai River

Khwai River is a rather uninteresting concession area straddling the extreme northeast of the Okavango Delta and the lower part of Chobe National Park.

There are three main detractions here ... firstly that the flood this far east is very unreliable ... secondly that the presence of the main safari route between Moremi and Chobe passes directly through, bring an enormous amount of overland and self-drive traffic into the area ... thirdly the presence of extensive and ramshackle park headquarters deprives the visitor of any sense of wilderness.

And if all that is not enough to put you off, the one lodge here is not exactly one of our favourites.

Khwai River Lodge

Khwai River is located in a rather unattractive concession area of the same name to the extreme northeast of the Okavango Delta.

This is one of three lodges in Botswana which are owned and operated by Orient Express. All three camps could be described as 'suburban luxury', with minibars, phones and aircon in the tents.

Khwai River is really not our kind of thing at all and we are yet to encounter an occasion where we would recommend it to our guests.
