Okavango Gunns

Gunn's Concession is located in the southeast of the Okavango Delta.

This is one of the oldest game-viewing concession areas and lodges such as Gunns and Oddballs were amongst the first to pioneer mokoro trips into the Okavango Delta.

But the world moves on and compared to the wonderful concessions and lodges elsewhere, this area seems rather busy and the lodges second rate.

As we always say about safari in Botswana ... if you cannot afford the good lodges, then head elsewhere, because here even the mediocre and poor lodges are pricey.

Delta Camp

Delta Camp is located in the busy and less than perfect Gunn's Concession in the southeast of the Okavango Delta.

The camp offers wet safari only, which is best during the flood months July to October.

In reality this place is actually more wierd than neighbouring Oddballs. There are some really innovative touches, including the most bizarre treehouse we have ever seen.

In our opinion Delta Camp is way too strange and simple to command these prices and we are yet to find an occasion that warrants recommending it to our guests.

Eagle Island Camp

Eagle Island is located in the busy and less than perfect Gunn's Concession in the southeast of the Okavango Delta.

This is one of three lodges in Botswana which are owned and operated by Orient Express. All three camps could be described as 'suburban luxury', with minibars, phones and aircon in the tents.

Eagle Island is really not our kind of thing at all and we are yet to encounter an occasion where we would recommend it to our guests.

Gunns Bushcamp

Gunn's Bushcamp is located in a busy concession of the same name in the southeast of the Okavango Delta.

The camp is extremely basic by Okavango standards and functions primarily as an overnighting spot for guests going out in mokoros on camping trips into the delta.

This is just too low quality and too risky for us to recommend.

Xigera Mokoro Trail or Kanana Mokoro Trail are both more expensive than this, but are the real deal.

Gunns Camp

Gunn's Camp is located in a busy concession of the same name in the southeast of the Okavango Delta.

The camp has no vehicles and offers mokoro and motorboat safari only.

Gunn's Camp is one of the oldest camps in the delta and although the main building is pleasant, overall the place feels tired and dated.

We occasionally include Gunn's Camp in our trips primarily because it accepts children of all ages, which is quite rare these days.

Oddballs Camp

Oddballs Camp is located in a busy concession of the same name in the southeast of the Okavango Delta.

The camp is very large and basic by Okavango standards and functions primarily as an overnighting spot for guests going out on mokoro camping trips into the delta.

Oddballs really is borderline for us in terms of quality and safety. The main incentive to use it is that the camp accepts children of all ages, which is rare these days.

Xigera Mokoro Trail or Kanana Mokoro Trail are both more expensive than this, but are the real deal.
