Okavango AbuThe Abu Concession is located to the southwest of the Okavango Delta.

Its northeast sector especially sees a good flood May to September, during which time the camps are able to offer a good mix of wet and dry safari. For the rest of the year this is largely a dry safari area, with a reputation for solid game-viewing.

The only 'regular' safari lodge here is the excellent Seba Camp.

The other two camps are specialist ... Abu Camp offering extremely pricey elephant-back safari, whilst Macatoo Camp operates probably the best horse-back safari in Africa

Abu Camp

Abu CampAbu Camp is located in a prime concession area to the southwest of the Okavango Delta.

This is one of Africa's most famous and most expensive camps. Its speciality is elephant back safari.

Whilst there is no doubting that this is a fantastic camp and a great experience, a fevered debate continues to rumble in safari circles as to whether this kind of tame animal interaction puts out the right kind of conservation message.

We tend to include Abu Camp in safaris relatively rarely, mainly due to the price.

  

Macatoo Camp

Macatoo CampMacatoo Camp is located on the excellent Abu Concession to the southwest of the Okavango Delta.

This well established camp has gained a reputation for offering probably the best horse-back safari in Africa.

Guests need to be experienced riders, capable of handling their animals under potentially hazardous conditions both on land and in water.

On the relatively rare occasions that we have been asked to include this in a safari, the feedback has been very good indeed.

Seba Camp

Seba Camp Seba Camp is located in the excellent Abu Concession to the southwest of the Okavango Delta in Botswana.

This reasonably high specification small camp offers an excellent mainly wet safari May/Sep. At other times the water recedes and the camp provides a decent but unexceptional dry safari experience.

We like this camp and use it regularly, especially in the wet season when it makes an excellent alternative to nearby Tubu Tree, Kwetsani and Jacana.
