SALZBURG SIGHTS
Hohensalzburg The first thing to do is to take the cableway up to Hohensalzburg
fortress. It is the best-preserved medieval fortress in Central Europe,
and the views from atop the 1 660 foot-high Festungsberg Mountain, are
remarkable. To the north is the city with its church spires, and to the
south the Alps. Address: The cableway departs from Festungsgasse 4
Altstadt Most of Salzburg’s tourist attractions are in Altstadt, the Old
Town. However, the charm of the area itself is possibly the biggest draw of all.
It is a listed UNESCO World Heritage site, and is full of quaint squares, fountains,
baroque churches, chubby medieval buildings, wrought iron signs, and much more.
Hagenauer Haus This is the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the child who
was to become the musical boy genius, and one of the world’s foremost composers.
In July and August the "Salzburger Festspiele" festival is held in
his honour. Address: Getreidegasse 9
Rupertinum Take a break from the idyllic surroundings, and visit Salzburg’s
museum for modern art. Next-door is the trendy Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac galleria.
