Imperial Church (hofkirche) Maximilian I’s sarcophagus is the star attraction at Innsbruck’s Hofkirche. Though the emperor no longer rests here, his tomb is considered a wonderful example of German Renaissance sculpture. Address: Rennweg 1 (opposite Hofburg)

Ambras Castle (schloss Ambras) Budget an afternoon for a trip to the magnificent Schloss Ambras. Housing among its frescoed halls the exquisite Spaniche Saal (Spanish Hall), the extensive armour collection of the Rüstkammer, the historical Portraitgalerie and the delightful treasures of the Kunst und Wunderkammer (Art and Wonders Collection), you’ll want to wander unhurried for hours.
