Graz boasts 11 award-winning restaurants and countless traditional inns serving filling, meat-based Styrian country dishes. Everything served in wine taverns (called Buschenschank here, Heuriger elsewhere in Austria) is sourced from a local farm. Try Brettljause, a big platter of cold meats, sausages and cheese, served with farmhouse bread and local wine. Pumpkin soup, seeds and oil appear on all local menus. Graz is also steeped in café culture, with the requisite cakes.
